STILETTOS, BABY!

[ Posted by: Anne Shisler-Hughes , 04 August 2010, 11:08 ]

Chiq asked:  if you were a shoe, what would you be?  And we answered:  stilettos!  It’s undoubtedly because they’re bold and sexy and maybe just a little dangerous – exactly like us.  Named after the stiletto knife, a long, slender, and deadly weapon, the style first gained popularity in the 1950s thanks to the skills and influence of legendary shoe designer Roger Vivier.  [to link: http://www.rogervivier.com/en/#/index]   The intriguing stiletto became a staple for burlesque performers and pin-up girls, as well as an object of fetish, and we know why – it’s all about owning a look where seduction and confidence go hand-in-hand.

Christian Louboutin has masterfully perfected the classic stiletto profile – featuring treacherously high heels that are improbably slim – in a way that few other shoe designers have.  Here, shared by treatnulikeabarbie, are the fantastic Clou Noeud Spikes.  Part punk, part performance, all attitude.

Equally tall, but moving in a more fluttery and elegant direction, is Anne Michelle’s Colada shoe, chiq’ed up by G. Yashodhara.

The Neve Snakeskin Platform Heels from Bebe, found by Sabrina, are not only bold in their shape, they’re made in a take-no-prisoners shade of electric blue.

If anyone can mix pretty with punk, it’s Betsey Johnson, she with the exotic kohl-darkened eyes and the wonderfully wild hair.  We loved the Lavant Sandal, shared by Ari930.

Nothing says step-out-of-my-way like red patent leather.  I admire anyone who can pull these off, as does chiq’ster fashion.girls.  She shared these Yves Saint Laurent Tribtoo Platform Pumps.

A big shout out is due to Juno, who found a number of extraordinary stilettos, including the SPIKE/Dark Gaga shootie, by Ruthie Davis – NOT for the timid.  These were also chiq'ed up, quite favorably, by Kayla Kernel.  Brilliant minds . . .

. . . and thanks to Juno as well for finding the hands-down, undeniable master of the stiletto, Gianmarco Lorenzi.  Here’s the GI Jane.  I mean, do you see that heel?
