SHOE CRAVING: Summer Sandals

[ Posted by: Anne Shisler-Hughes , 03 August 2010, 01:08 ]

While it’s true that we chiq’sters are devoted fashionistas, and shoes are always foremost on our minds, it seems to me that this season’s summer sandals are really enjoying a moment of creativity and panache. If we’ve embraced the myriad trends appearing in both the haute and affordable marketplaces, we’ve had quite a lot of fun and stayed cool in the process.

Mostly, this year, as you all know, it’s about the thong sandal. Fitting snugly between the first two toes, this hip look was brought to our attention back in the day by none other than Jackie Onassis and her love for the classic Italian Bernardo sandal

In 2010, the thong trend met the gladiator concept and joined the shiny metallic theme, to give us this wonderful Charly shoe by Juicy Couture, shared by NatalieM.

And the addition of chain links at the ankle livened up this look, giving it charm, color and energy. Found by Gratia, the Kurt Geiger Carvela shoe.

Taking it in a decidedly sleek direction, the Patent-leather thong sandals by Sigerson Morrison are very sophisticated indeed. Shared by cocoglam.

Prada, as we all saw, made clear rhinestones and bold glass rocks the staple of their spring/summer offerings, and many of them, with Lucite to boot, are still available on Bluefly. Here’s a heeled peep-toe slide.

Catherine Frizzell located the artistic and sweet Peacock Sandals by the venerable house of Fendi.

Ramping up considerably, I could not resist these sexy, vampy evening numbers by Christian Louboutin, the Ambertina Bejeweled Sandals.

Nor these off-to-the-salon comfort shoes by Valentino, the Bow Jelly Thong Sandal. Seriously to die for.

Back down to earth, the classic espadrille shared by jenettecarolina from Paloma Barcelo was sensibly embraced by many of us as we considered selecting a beautiful but flexible summer sandal.
