News from Paris : The Breton T-shirt is back!

[ Posted by: Karolina Stefanski , 16 February 2010, 10:02 ]

What Audrey Hepburn, Picasso and Lee Marvin and later Andy Wahrhol and Jean Paul Gaultier wore at the French Rivera became a fashion classic and is back this summer and big! The famous Breton striped t-shirt has been making history ever since it got famous in the 1930s.

Despite the different styles of each brand, the French boutique windows all display an air of the famous sailors’ theme. Blue and white striped jackets, shirts and blouses are omnipresent!

Here are my favorite and affordable selections:
Zara: blue and white striped cotton blazer. For a great price-quality value you can dress it up or down and look fabulous this summer! Zara website Ref. 2357-248

A French fashion brand, Sandro, offers an alternative to the Zara blazer. Perfectly casual but still chic. It looks great paired with their small flower-printed t-shirt and nude- or kaki-color shorts: Spring summer 2010/ look 19, striped jacket, cotton

The casual but high quality striped shirts at Maje, a young French fashion brand, are great in value and can be worn during the day and evening (with studs on some of the shirts). Sorry, no image available.

Even evening-wear gets a touch of the sailors` theme. Maje has a great black and white striped lace top that you can combine with a simple black skirt or pants for the evening or even with shorts for the day. Maje black and white top

Tara Jarmon, a label that stands for clean feminine lines and good quality has many of her designs in navy blue. I love the jackets combined with hotpans in 50s style. Tara Jarmon
