Sandra Baquero wants you to feel fabulous. She believes that fashion is intertwined with the very essence of our beings, is an integral part of how we live our lives, and expresses the way we feel about ourselves as we navigate the world. If her designs can lift your spirit – or match your spunk – she’s done her job.

Baquero was born and raised in Columbia and learned her craft at the Taller Cinquo Centro de Diseño in Bogotá. Upon coming to the United States, she began a mother-daughter clothing line called Nisa, and noticed that the ‘mother’ pieces were developing a devoted fan base. It was then she smartly switched gears to focus on a line exclusively for women, and the Sandra Baquero brand was born.
The designer’s Columbian culture, where women are more apt to show off their sensuality, is alive in her work. While the draping is dramatic and full, there is always something of the body highlighted. That distinctly Caribbean sensibility – where fashion-forwardness meets the casual feeling of warm days and nights in lush surroundings – lends itself naturally to a successful resort line.
It’s not surprising that in the first two years Baquero has been designing under her eponymous label, women of all ages and sizes have been buying, and returning to, her pieces. The clothes bring an air of sophistication to the teenager developing her own personal style, and offer a bit of fun for the mature woman still interested in turning heads. A hands-on designer with an interest in individuality and comfort, she is very happy to custom-tailor pieces to achieve a perfect fit.
Currently Sandra Baquero is in Columbia rejuvenating from a busy year, seeking inspiration for the next line, and sourcing new and unique fabrics. While her pieces have been showcased in and are scheduled for inclusion in future television shows and music videos, she’s most proud of the brand’s presence in events benefiting others, such as the upcoming “Fashion Keeps Fantasy Alive Haiti Relief” for children living in the Marantha Orphanage and School. It goes without saying that her exuberant designs certainly benefit us. To learn more, see www.sandrabaquero.com and Sohung Designs & Collective, 312 East 9th Street, NYC (212) 228-8199.
