Fashion gurus, fashion insiders, as well as fashion victims have been anxiously waiting for Vogue’s Fashion Night Out! Last night, the event was celebrated on the glamorous streets of fashion capitals throughout the globe. Couture and ready-to-wear fashion houses opened their doors so the public could admire the latest collections. Below is my report from Paris:

One of Paris’ most glamorous streets, Avenue Montaigne was filled with visitors by 7 p.m. Freshly elected Parisian Vogue Editor in Chief, Emmanuelle Alt, who completed her first Vogue issue this past April, was in attendance and opened the event.

Photographers, models, designers and buyers joined the hordes of window shoppers, which grew steadily until late in the evening. There were endless lines to opulent stores such as Chanel, Pucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, Christian Dior, Emporio Armani and Versace among many others. Fashion conscious consumers didn’t mind waiting up to an hour or two to gain entry into their selected stores to check out and purchase the latest collection.

Vogue’s Fashion Night Out purpose was to seduce the public and draw them into the luxury stores to view the newest fashion and, of course, sell the fresh designs while enjoying drinks and hors d’oeuvres.

In addition to celebrating, meeting designers, networking and enjoying champagne, one of the major activities was “people watching.” The majority of people dressed in eccentric clothes, most of which were colorful, playful and anything out of the norm.

Many women wore blood-red lipstick, reminiscent of the 1950s Hollywood era and in tune with the current TV series Mad Men. On men we saw many bowties in all kinds of fabrics, sizes and colors, suggesting the same era. Black was also en vogue with many of the visitors, but color seemed to be the most popular ingredient of the night.

Bare arms are out this summer! Wrists are bejeweled with all kinds of bracelets, cuffs, and bangles.

After observing and interviewing some of the fans, most of their bracelets have a story, give positive energy, or serve as an amulet from bad influences or are a symbol of a membership to an exclusive club or cult (e.g. Michael Connors` Dalai Lama compassion bracelet).

Some of the hot and most popular ones are bracelets on a delicate leather or satin band with a precious jewel on it. The jewel can be a diamond-encrusted skull or bat in gold or platinum or just a simple sterling silver heart or circle.

The French love Din Van`s “manettes” (handcuffs) bracelet in all variations, ranging from sterling silver to platinum and titanium.  Zadig & Voltaire (http://www.zadig-et-voltaire.com/) offers a wide range of rock’n’roll bracelets that are popular with the young crowd such as the sterling silver oxidized star with gems on a red satin band.

For a more sophisticated look, check out Shamballa’s hot custom-made bracelets available at Colette`s in Paris (http://www.colette.fr/). Their collections symbolize the star of Shamballa, representing the female creative energy of the universe, and the thunderbolt, the male firepower of creation. The company`s philosophy is that, “by wearing either symbol, one invites the possibility of connecting to the energy of creation.”

Stone, a brand created by Marie Poniatowski and Vanessa de Jaegher, offers bracelets made of 18 karats gold and diamonds, such as the "Petite feuille des merveilles" (little marvelous leaf) bracelet, which features a Marihuana leaf. Also available at Colette`s in Paris.

Once a trend in the 80`s, the loose boyfriend jeans are back but this time we call them “rolled-up jeans.” Celebrities are dying for this effortlessly styled look. French actresses Marion Cotillard and Audrey Tatou, as well as Katie Holmes, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson are all rolling up their jeans.

The silhouette of the pants looks best if it is loose and sits on the hips, showing off a bit of bare leg. This look can be either dressed up or down. If accessorized with glamorous high heels, cage shoes, or strappy sandals, they create a cool chic evening look, or for a more casual look, they are paired with ballet pumps, gladiator sandals or any type of flats.

The best combination of boyfriend jeans is with fitted feminine tops, such as blouses, and a belt to emphasize your waist although a button-down shirt or an oversized t-shirt look good too with this latest trend.

Boyfriend jeans are great because they are comfortable, they can be dressed up or down, and they fit all body types (straight and curvy girls). The key is to keep the feminine side because the jeans are already very masculine.

Military fashion as a trend has been around for years. Michaela Jackson was probably the style icon of military fashion, setting the trend a long time ago. However, this fall’s trend takes us to a new level – the clothes are chic and sexy but at the same time understated and functional.

    Military Fashion

    Green Tassle Jacket

Coats, pants and sweaters inspired by military uniforms of the 17th and 18th centuries have a modern twist. They are embellished with gold and silver details and buttons, ornate trims and embroideries, which complement the strict military cuts. The key motif is color: army green and navy. The key piece this fall is a coat or jacket in military look. Military fashion boots (or aviator boots) are the runner up and another way to spice up the outfit.

Wear skinny cargo pants with high heels, or pair over-the-knee fringed boots with skinny pants and a strict military jacket.

Generally, spring and summer are associated with revival, expressed through fresh, vibrant and bold colors. However, this season, all we see on European runways are very soft shades of almost “lack of color.” Designers have been focusing on nude-tones and pastel ice-cream colors.

Delicate, calming shades of cream, champagne, pink, beige, ivory, mocca, nutmeg, caramel and salmon replace the bright, vivid colors of last year`s summer.

The colors are present in all sorts of fabrics and shapes, from floating, sheer silk dresses and pants, to the classic trench coats and to short leather jackets.

Pantone, the world-renowned authority of color, with its headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, who forecasted mostly soft shades for this season, inspired designers from all over the world. Some critics say it is due to the current economic climate and the fashion industry responds accordingly. Others disagree, arguing that it is just a reaction against the bright and neon color trends from the past. Whichever you agree with, the current color mood is extremely feminine and timeless, transcending seasons.

The question that might bug your mind now is, how to wear nude without looking naked? Try not to wear nude colors too tight. Body-conscious shapes, which imitate a layer of skin are not very flattering unless you are Jennifer Lopez or Britney Spears and on stage or Sasha Cohen on ice. The outfit looks good when draping the body and flowing freely around it. Nude colors tend to wash out some skin tones, therefore, try pairing them with a darker neutral tone such as chocolate, black or navy.
